Each Teacher's Resource Book provides detailed notes for systematic treatment of every book in the series. Clear outcomes for each guided and shared reading session are listed. Supports and challenges within each text and the high-frequency words used are also listed, allowing teachers to use this as a guide to selecting books that meet the individual needs of their students. Guided writing sessions introduce models for the children to follow in subsequent independent writing sessions.

The notes in the Teacher's Resource Book enable teachers to:

• focus on developing independent reading strategies, including the use of semantic, syntactic and graphophonic cues
• encourage reading for meaning
• promote discussion and encourage students to talk and think about the books they read
• provide clear models for children's own writing in a wide range of fiction and non-fiction genres.

Each Teacher's Resource Book covers the four modules in the respective level (Emergent, Early and Fluent). Included in the Teacher's Resource Book are:

• guided reading and writing notes
• notes for visual literacy activities and discussions
• learning centre and listening post activities
• ideas for integrated activities across the curriculum
• language challenges for students needing extra help
• extension activities to challenge high achievers
• home activities
• teching notes and blackline masters for shared reading using big books
• assessment checklists and running record sheets for assessment using the benchmark books.

Photocopiable blackline masters for the guided reading books are contained in a separate book. The Blackline Masters provide activities to develop and assess:

• phonemic awareness
• comprehension
• writing skills
• skills and knowledge in other curriculum areas.

There are two audio CDs for Listening Post use at each level. They contain readings of selected stories from the guided reading books.

The benchmark books provide teachers with new texts to assess the reading development of their students. Each module has one benchmark book that contains two titles: one fiction and and one non-fiction. For all the benchmark books, the Teacher's Resource Book contains:
