Word Family Books Mad, Sad, Glad

Excerpt: Mad, Sad, Glad

Word family words are single syllable wrds with a beginning and a rhyme, commonly called the "onset" and "rime". In pain, p is the onset, ain is the rime.

It is important for reading and spelling to hear the sounds at the beginning of the word and the cluster(s) of sounds that follow. Learning regular spelling patterns can be achieved effectively through awareness of onset and rimes.
